Walker Residence

San Francisco, CA

This is our 4th project with this family over a 25-year period. As locations have changed with job responsibilities they have had to relocate. Each time with each new style we have adopted their taste to the building so that they adapt and change with the texture of the neighborhood and their surroundings to create an outstanding project which as they now know, may not be their last move.  As Mr. Walker, states he always makes money with me.

This renovation is a townhouse located on the hill in San Francisco and surrounded by other townhouses.  The essence of the project was to return it to its old glory but also to modernize it with a much larger eat in kitchen, develop the lower level with a guest suite and office and to create a master suite on the top floor.   We had long conversations of what the kitchen and bathrooms show be like verses the “older” public rooms of living room, dining room and entrance stair hall.  We discussed the concept of moldings and how they fit with the period and their scale in relationship to the size of the rooms and the heights.  We used the gold section to develop proportions and relationships of each room.

The exterior was mostly color and window replacement and refurbishment of the front stairs and driveway entrance.  The rear elevation had a new deck and back yard garden where we collaborated with the landscape architect Megan Van Linda.
