Private Residence Rooftop

Rooftop Design Featuring BUZON Pedestals
This project was a Roof Top Terrace Design Project and FZAD Architecture + Design joint effort. The roof was an “old brownstone” that had old skylights and various roof heights that need to be spanned over to create a services of level decks for the penthouse level. The solution was to create a steel deck with grating that would be held up above the old roof with Buzon pedestals. This allowed the steel beams to be supported at a series of points for an even load across the roof. This eliminated structurally altering the existing brownstone roof.
The new level deck than created a series of playground surfaces from wood to tile to artificial turf and even held up the cantilevered glass railing. The additional interesting point of view was all of this was done while the client lived below because you did not have to penetrate the roof membrane. Incredible logistics.
