Max Mara

813 Madison Avenue, New York, NY

Completed in 1994, is the new Max Mara store and the restoration of the six story building for the new US Flagship location for Max Mara USA, Inc.  Max Mara is based in Italy and has over two hundred stores throughout Europe and entered the New York Market with the purchase of this corner site.

The new storefront is a classical limestone facade reminiscent of the two story facades that developed the streetscape of large buildings in Manhattan.  The restoration of the upper facade includes the restoration of the cornices, new brownstone carved window trims, and restoration of the brick faces.  The store interior was developed in conjunction with Max Mara’s architect, Gucci Grassi,  in Reggio Emilia and is laid out as an axial sequence of interior rooms with stainless steel finishes and plaster walls.  The project was chosen by the Upper East Side Historic District in 1995 to receive an award for best commercial design.
